🚀 Role Summary

  • Design digital products with a focus on the pre-trip customer experience, ensuring a high-leverage digital touchpoint for families and students.

  • Develop core components of an interactive design system, including visual language, component library, and interaction patterns for broader leverage.

  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Engineers across multiple pods to own the look, feel, and design execution of all shipped features.

  • Leverage Voice of Customer (VoC) research and insights to inform usability assessments and enhance UX/UI design craft.

📝 Enhancement Note: This role is positioned as a "founding hire" for an in-house UX/UI design capability, indicating a significant opportunity for the candidate to shape the design function and establish foundational elements of the design system. The emphasis on "pre-trip customer experience" highlights a critical user journey for WorldStrides, directly impacting customer acquisition and satisfaction.

📈 Primary Responsibilities

  • Execute UX and UI interaction design for features across supported pods, focusing on clear flows, well-crafted screens, consistent visual language, and interaction details.

  • Produce meticulously organized Figma work product, including reusable components, sensible naming conventions, and files ready for engineering handoff.

  • Establish the foundational elements of the WorldStrides digital interaction design system, encompassing the component library, type scale, color system, spacing rules, and interaction patterns, ensuring alignment with brand and digital marketing standards while optimizing for specific use cases.

  • Create quick, low-fidelity prototypes for rapid idea testing and high-fidelity designs for production readiness.

  • Manage time and priorities transparently across multiple pods in partnership with Product Managers, ensuring efficient allocation of design resources.

  • Translate problem statements or rough ideas into usable, accessible, and on-brand flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity designs.

  • Integrate AI tools into the daily workflow for generating variations, drafting copy, exploring visual directions, and mocking imagery to accelerate the design process.

  • Build clickable Figma prototypes for user testing and iterate designs based on feedback gathered from user sessions.

  • Maintain a high visual standard across all shipped products, ensuring consistency in typography, spacing, hierarchy, and motion to build user trust.

  • Contribute new patterns and components to the design system to ensure broad team benefit and identify any missing system elements.

  • Participate in user research sessions conducted by the VoC team, absorb insights, and apply them to design iterations, ensuring the insights infrastructure supports usability assessment needs.

  • Foster a collaborative environment by sharing work-in-progress early, accepting feedback gracefully, and treating shared time as an opportunity for cross-pollination and efficiency.

📝 Enhancement Note: The responsibilities emphasize a hands-on design role with a strong focus on system thinking and collaboration. The integration of AI tools is a key aspect, suggesting the company is forward-thinking in its product development processes. The role requires not just design execution but also strategic contribution to the design system and active participation in user research feedback loops.

🎓 Skills & Qualifications

Education: While not explicitly stated, a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field is typically expected for this level of design role. A strong portfolio can often substitute for formal education.

Experience: 2-4 years of experience designing digital products, with a demonstrated ability to create clean, on-brand UI and clear, usable user flows.

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience in UX and UI design for digital products.

  • Strong visual and interaction design craft, with a clear point of view on typography, spacing, hierarchy, and motion.

  • Fluency in Figma, including proficiency with components, variants, auto-layout, prototyping, and efficient file organization for engineering handoff.

  • Ability to translate written problem statements and collaborate effectively with Product Managers to initiate design work without fully specified tickets.

  • Curiosity and willingness to use AI tools in the design workflow, with the ability to demonstrate recent practical applications.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate design choices based on rationale rather than solely subjective taste.
