Design Manager PMC Data Centre - CSA & MEP
π Job Overview
Job Title: Design Manager PMC (Data Centre) β CSA & MEP
Company: Fuku
Location: Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Job Type: Full-Time
Category: Project Management Consultancy / Design Management (Data Centers)
Date Posted: 2026-05-21
Experience Level: 10+ Years
Remote Status: On-site
π Role Summary
-
Lead the multi-disciplinary design coordination for high-density hyperscale data center campuses, acting as the crucial technical liaison between global clients, lead design consultants, and site execution teams.
-
Manage the entire Civil, Structural, Architectural (CSA) and Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) design lifecycle, ensuring seamless integration and adherence to stringent international client design standards.
-
Drive comprehensive constructability and value engineering reviews to proactively identify and resolve spatial layout clashes before procurement.
-
Oversee the local authority submission and permitting roadmap, navigating statutory agencies to secure necessary approvals for project execution.
-
Facilitate rigorous interface management and advanced Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflows to achieve a defect-free site build.
π Enhancement Note: This role is highly specialized within the data center infrastructure domain, focusing on the critical intersection of design, engineering, and project management consultancy. The emphasis on "PMC" (Project Management Consultancy) and "hyperscale data center campuses" indicates a need for deep expertise in managing complex, large-scale critical facilities, requiring a strong understanding of both client requirements and execution realities.
π Primary Responsibilities
-
Design Coordination Leadership: Manage and synchronize the CSA and MEP design lifecycle, serving as the primary technical bridge between global hyperscale clients, lead design consultants, and site execution teams for data center projects.
-
Constructability & Value Engineering: Lead thorough constructability and value engineering reviews, pinpointing and mitigating complex spatial layout clashes between dense MEP routing (e.g., high-density switchgears, chillers, UPS systems) and CSA design parameters prior to contract procurement.
-
Authority & Permitting Management: Command the local authority submission and permitting roadmap, adeptly navigating statutory agencies (including TNB, DOSH/JKKP, IWK, JKR, BOMBA, and municipal councils) to secure Developer Orders (DO), Building Plans (BP), and the final Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC).
-
BIM Workflow Oversight: Oversee advanced Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflows, establishing and enforcing strict clash-detection protocols to ensure a "first-time-right," zero-defect site build for data center facilities.
-
Interface Management: Facilitate rigorous interface management meetings, effectively balancing local regulatory compliance with stringent international client design standards, such as Uptime Institute Tier III/IV.
-
Technical Documentation: Ensure all design documentation is accurate, compliant with local regulations, and meets the rigorous standards of tier-1 global technology clients.
-
Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify design-related risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
π Enhancement Note: The responsibilities highlight a hands-on, technically detailed role requiring proactive problem-solving and deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks specific to Malaysia, alongside international data center standards. The emphasis on "dense MEP routing" and "spatial layout clashes" points to the intricate nature of data center design where efficient space utilization and system integration are paramount.
π Skills & Qualifications
Education:
- Professional qualifications are highly regarded, with active registration with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM), a PMP certification, or credentials as a Green Building Facilitator (GBIF / LEED AP) being a significant advantage.
Experience:
-
8 to 12+ years of professional experience in design management, architectural coordination, or technical master planning.
-
A proven track record dedicated to large-scale industrial, utility infrastructure, or, ideally, data center builds is essential.
Required Skills:
-
Design Management: Proven ability to lead and coordinate complex multi-disciplinary design processes for critical infrastructure projects.
-
CSA & MEP Technical Integration: Strong domain knowledge across both Civil, Structural, Architectural (CSA) parameters and mission-critical Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) infrastructure requirements specific to data centers.
-
Malaysian Regulatory Expertise: Exceptional, current knowledge of the Malaysian Uniform Building By-Laws (UBBL), local utility grid requirements (e.g., TNB), and comprehensive authority clearance procedures for construction and occupancy.
-
BIM Software Proficiency: High proficiency in modern design coordination and BIM software ecosystems, including AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks, with a focus on clash detection and workflow management.
-
Constructability & Value Engineering: Strong analytical skills to conduct thorough constructability reviews and implement value engineering initiatives.
-
Interface Management: Expertise in facilitating and managing complex stakeholder interfaces to ensure alignment and prevent conflicts.
Preferred Skills:
-
Data Center Design Standards: Familiarity with international data center design standards and certifications, such as Uptime Institute Tier III/IV.
-
Project Management Professional (PMP): Certification demonstrating strong project management capabilities.
-
Green Building Certifications: Credentials like GBIF or LEED AP, indicating an understanding of sustainable design practices.
-
Experience with Global Hyperscalers: Prior experience working with or for major hyperscale cloud providers.
-
International Project Experience: Exposure to mega-infrastructure projects beyond Malaysia.
π Enhancement Note: The emphasis on specific Malaysian regulatory bodies (TNB, DOSH, IKB, JKR, BOMBA) and the UBBL, combined with international standards like Uptime Institute, underscores the need for a candidate with a very specific blend of local expertise and global best practices. The preference for PMP and green building certifications further defines the ideal candidate profile as someone committed to structured project delivery and sustainable design.
π Process & Systems Portfolio Requirements
Portfolio Essentials:
-
Design Coordination Case Studies: Showcase examples of managing complex multi-disciplinary design coordination for large-scale projects, detailing the coordination process, challenges encountered, and resolutions.
Application Requirements
Requires 8 to 12+ years of experience in design management for large-scale industrial or data center projects with strong knowledge of Malaysian building laws. Proficiency in BIM software and professional accreditation from BEM, LAM, or PMP is highly regarded.
