  • Lead and manage all design management activities across major and complex construction projects, ensuring alignment with overall project objectives and company strategy.

  • Establish and maintain robust design governance frameworks, including reporting structures, control mechanisms, and performance metrics.

  • Provide expert advice and assurance to project leadership teams and stakeholders on all design-related matters, including technical feasibility, risk mitigation, and compliance.

  • Define, implement, and monitor design delivery strategies that effectively support procurement, construction, commissioning, and client occupancy phases.

  • Ensure rigorous oversight of design reviews, approval processes, and validation procedures to guarantee technical excellence and adherence to Safety in Design principles.

  • Proactively manage design risks and opportunities throughout the entire project lifecycle, developing and implementing mitigation and exploitation strategies.

  • Drive value engineering and design optimisation initiatives, collaborating with project teams and clients to identify cost-saving opportunities and enhance project outcomes without compromising quality or functionality.

  • Manage design change control processes, assessing and controlling commercial impacts to maintain project financial commitments.

  • Serve as the senior design interface between clients, external consultants, and internal project teams, fostering strong collaborative relationships.

  • Lead key design workshops, review meetings, and approval sessions, ensuring clear communication and decision-making.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop Design Managers and Assistant Design Managers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the design management team.

Education:

  • Chartered status with a relevant professional body is a significant advantage. Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in design management within the construction industry.

  • Significant proven experience in managing the design delivery process for major, complex construction projects, with a focus on large-scale data centres or similar specialist sectors.

  • Demonstrable experience in leading and managing multi-disciplinary design teams, including architects, engineers, and specialist consultants.

  • Proven experience in managing design governance, programme delivery, risk assessment, and commercial performance for large-value projects.

  • Extensive track record of successfully delivering value engineering and design optimisation outcomes.

  • Experience in developing and mentoring junior design management professionals and building design management capability within a team. Required Skills:
